JUNIOR FISHING EVENTS 2010

If are a junior (16 and under and still at school) why not sign up and come and fish in our summer long fishing event for more infomation please contact Claire on 01329 280213 or e-mail via the contact button on the web site.

hope that you are all well and have managed a bit of fishing in the winter months, but now the sun’s out and the summer’s here and we can look forward to an excellent few months of events.

So far I have arranged Seven dates, but am sure there will be more.

We will be scoring the matches this year like the grand prix, to make it fairer than last year. So this means you will get 12 points for 1St place,10 points for 2nd place,8 points for 3rd etc..etc.. until 10th place where you will receive 1 point and anyone finishing below 10th place will also receive a point for competing .

At the end of the summer your 2 worst scores will not be counted towards your final points score. This means that you don’t have to fish every match, or it doesn’t matter if you don’t catch in every match or how many people fish, and if you miss any matches due to holidays etc it will not jeopardise your points total.

Please also note the booking in procedure

each matchyou want to fish you must come in and book in and pay, (your parents do not have to come with you for this once they have signed the consent form). £3.00 for normal matches where you bring your own bait, £5.00 for Dryad where I will supply the bait . Remember some venues are smaller than others and places will be limited so book early. When you book in for each individual match you will be given directions, tips on baits and methods and rules of the water. I will not stand for any breaking of rules or misbehaviour!!!

It is very important that your parents read this bit.

I have been running these events for 17 years now and they are a way of helping children get into fishing and learn more skills. I am not vetted, affiliated or qualified to work with children under today’s strict controls though. At the events there will normally be helpers, people who know the venues and are please to help the children, at most of the events subject to availability I will also have a professional angling coach in attendance who is first aid qualified and has been through all the correct procedures to work with children. All children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, 13 to 16 year olds can be left at their parents discretion, and all parents must complete the consent form enclosed before any matches are fished.

Just to clarify, if you were in year 11 this year you can still take part even if you are already 16.

Portchester Open  Sunday 15th November 2009 Portchester castle To Wicor Point

The longest running beach fishing competition in the area returned this year to huge support from the local anglers.
178 anglers risked the elements to support once again what must be the best attended match in the southern calendar.

Unfortunately for the local anglers that turned out the fish were not so forthcoming, and as in previous years it was apparent that one decent fish could win it all.

In all 11 fish were brought back to the scales,6 bass and 5 flounders by 10 anglers although plenty of school bass were caught and returned .

The results are as follows:-

Biggest bag weight

1st. Gareth Beames, Chichester Bass - 4lb 2oz - £500
2nd. Ian Gay, Gosport Bass - 3lb 5oz - £175
3rd. Marc Garvy Portsmouth (1stbass) Bass - 3lb 5oz - £175
4th. James Wasbrough, Portsmouth Bass - 3lb 2oz

2nd and 3rd joint so money was split.

Round Fish Pool
Gareth Beames, Chichester Bass - 4lb 2oz - £180

Flatfish Pool
Richard Monk Fareham Flounder-1lb 14oz £180

As so few fish were caught the £1000 prize table was distributed as a raffle. Many thanks to Portchester Sailing Club Angling and Hansfords Of Fareham for the sponsorship also all who competed to make the day most enjoyable.

Dryad Juniors Festival Southwick Park Lake Match Report.

Dryad Juniors Festival
Southwick Park Lake
26th July 2009
Match Report.
After being informed that the lake was not fishing very well, and that even in the adult open matches many respected anglers were struggling to catch, I was a bit apprehensive about the day, worried that for the first time in 18 years children were going to blank at Dryad.
How wrong could I have been, it was one of the most enjoyable matches I have ever been part of. The children fished brilliantly, nearly all of them managing to catch a carp. Their angling skills were so impressive, and it really shows how much they have learnt over the years with the help of all the assistants and coaches who give up the Sundays to help me put on these event. It was very satisfying to see, Thank you everyone involved.
Special mentions on the day must go to the 2 overall winners, Tom Penny in the over 13’s with an amazing 73lb (and he lost more!) caught legering with an 8ml pellet hook bait. And Liam Pack the under 13’s winner who, after some coaching ,learnt to fish the method and landed a massive 47lb 14oz. But well done to all those who took part it was a brilliant day.

As well as trophies for all the winners all the children received an amazing goodie bag with over £40 worth of donated tackle in, and all the participants won a prize from the final prize table

Well done again,

Tight Lines
